More than £8,000 was raised when 300 deer stalkers got together at a fundraising event in the north of England.

BASC, the British Deer Society and the Deer Initiative got together to host the charity event at Malmo Guns near Lancaster.

The money raised from a raffle, an auction and entry to the event has been donated to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and NW Air Ambulance.

Plans are already in the pipeline to host a similar event in the future.

Best practice demonstrations were held on gralloching and carcass inspection, venison butchery and shot placement.  The ST2 shooting simulator was on available to let deer stalkers test their skills.

BASC North director Duncan Thomas said the highlight of the evening was a raffle and sporting auction where local businesses, estates across the UK and deer managers donated deer stalking, shooting and fishing opportunities from as far afield as Wales, Scotland, Sussex, and even a private plane trip to a pistol range on the Isle of Man.

He said: "What a fantastic example of a great team delivering a superb event, the sun shone on Malmo. Yet again the Northern shooting community have raised great funds for well deserving charities. We are already looking forward to the next event."

Nick Jackson from the British Deer Society said: "The north west stalkers’ charity evening provided a great showcase for all organisations involved with deer to work together to put on a really popular event raising money for fantastic causes. The north west branch of the BDS cannot thank all of the donors, helpers, bidders and attendees enough."

Alastair Boston from the Deer Initiative said: “The evening was superb; where else can you enjoy attending and learning from deer best practice events whilst also raising money for two very worthy causes.

"The Deer Initiative wishes to thank all the partners who were involved in organising and running this event and in particular everyone who helped to make the raffle and auction so successful, with special thanks to the donors and bidders. A huge thank you must also go to Malmo Guns for hosting this fantastic event and to everyone who attended for helping to make it a truly world class evening.”

Gina Prest from Malmo Guns said: "It’s been a pleasure to host this outstanding event, bringing together a wealth of knowledge from various trades and great organisations to create an educational and thoroughly enjoyable social evening. The Malmo team are thrilled that all the hard work has paid off to raise a wonderful amount for two very worthy charities."
