The Deer Initiative

The Welsh Game Meat Project

Published date: 06/03/2017

The Welsh Game Meat project is an independent study which aims to identify and evaluate the potential for sustainable short supply chains, local markets and increased sales and consumption of game meat in Wales.

Through coordination and collaboration, the project will build capacity, create a new cluster and establish a base to support subsequent projects to improve Welsh game meat supply chains in areas such as education and skills, working practices, infrastructure, product development, standards, tourism and consumer promotion.

The project will facilitate knowledge transfer about all aspects of game meat supply chains in Wales and will potentially pave the way to ensure new and wider sales opportunities and outlets for game meat and game meat products, leading to a professional and sustainable game meat business in Wales.

The Welsh Game Meat project is being delivered by Four Cymru with The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) as the lead partner and a Project Advisory Group (including DI Deer Liaison Officer, Steve Griffiths) providing support and guidance for the project.

The Welsh Game Meat project will run for 12 months, from September 2016 to September 2017.
