The DeerInitiative (DI) are pleased to announce the appointment of Blair Smith as the DI’s Research and Policy Officer. Blair is a graduate of the University of Glasgow where he achieved a B.Sc (Hons) in Zoology, including completion of a dissertation investigating the effects of decreasing density in Scotland’s open hill red deer population.

Executive Director Peter Watson said, “I’m delighted that Blair is joining us after completing his degree under the supervision of Professor Rory Putman. His background in deer ecology and impacts will be a real asset to our team.”

Initially Blair’s priorities will be helping to build our knowledge of deer parks in the UK and contributing to the forthcoming review of the Government’s wild deer and feral wild boar action plans.

Blair said, “My degree in Zoology has given me a wide academic background in the environment and its management. I am excited to be able to use this knowledge in my work with the Deer Initiative”
