On the 20th year anniversary of the formation of the Deer Initiative Partnership we are excited to announce the appointment of a new Chairman, Professor John Moverley OBE. John takes over from Jane Rabagliati who has successfully built a strong Partnership which continues to ensure the delivery of a sustainable, well-managed wild deer population in England and Wales in support of the Defra Wild Deer Action Plan and the Welsh Assembly Government’s strategy for Wild deer management in Wales.
Jane said, “In the 10 years since my appointment the Deer Initiative Partnership has come a long way and has become a model of collaborative working that is the envy of many, here in the UK and overseas. It has been an exciting and rewarding journey, and I am pleased to be able to place in John’s capable hands a cohesive and vibrant partnership which is delivering at both national and regional level. I wish him, and the Deer Initiative, every success”
John said, ‘’I am delighted to take up this appointment and help continue to take forward the great work of the Deer Initiative. It is important to maintain and further develop the partnership approach and work closely with related initiatives and organisations in an integrated manner so as to continue to make a real difference’’
CLA President Henry Robinson said: “We welcome John’s appointment as new Chair and look forward to working with him on the Board of Trustees. His other interests within high profile countryside organisations demonstrate his breadth of knowledge on rural issues and we are confident his dynamism will bring a new approach to this very important role.”
Nick Walmsley of the National Trust who was involved with the selection process said: ‘The Trust welcomes John who is well placed to lead the Partnership into its third decade. He brings a wealth of experience in the land based sector and his background in education and his commitment to learning will bring a new perspective to our work.’
