Census

Counting wild deer accurately can be difficult, often underestimating the true number. For this reason it may be misleading to base cull plans on perceived deer numbers unless counts are known to be accurate and a population breakdown (males/females/young) is available.

Nonetheless census can be useful for identifying minimum deer densities and for observing trends in population numbers. See the links below for discussion and methods.
