Deer Management Groups
Wild deer are increasing throughout England. In some areas, populations have already risen to the point where serious damage is being caused to woodlands, crops and environmentally sensitive areas. As herds range over wide areas, land managers need to co-operate with neighbours and co-ordinate activities through Deer Management Groups.

Setting up a Deer Management Group
The structure and working of every Group will differ depending on land use, ownership, deer species and distribution.
The impetus must come from landowners or occupiers to ensure their specific aims are achieved.
Groups should cover practical areas based on deer ranges.
Start small and expand as opportunity allows.
Find an enthusiastic organiser.
Accredited stalkers should be competent
and adopt a humane, responsible and sensitive approach to deer management.
Administration should be kept to a minimum – two meetings a year should suffice.
We have a FREE Advice Note on Deer Management Groups which is available on our downloads page.
